Photovoltaic Modules
Photovoltaic cell technology converts the sun’s energy into electricity (DC) using the photoelectric effect, which occurs when electrons are emitted from an element (cell) through the absorption of the sun’s visible light. The cells are composed of silicon, which functions as a semi-conducting element. The first solar cell was created by Charles Fritts, a scientist, in the 1880’s. It wasn’t until the 1950’s though that PV technology began generating energy for a wide variety of residential and commercial applications.
